Course objectives
Learning objectives and competences: Student has a knowledge of basic design elements of underground structures and principle methods of design and checking of primary lining of underground structures. Student will be acquainted with geotechnical investigation, with influence of geology into the underground structures layout and with classification of rocks for underground structures. Further on with introduction into the theory of rocky pressures, with tunel systems for different profiles, explosive works, excavation of shafts. Student will be able to check deformations of suface. Excavated underground structures and microtunelling. The history, the nomenclature and the terminology in the underground structures. The basic design elements, geotechnical survey. Theory of the rock pressure and static calculation of the underground structures lining. The excavating structures and the driving structures. The new methods for tunnel building and the underground structures supporting. The shield tunneling methods (nonmechanized shield, mechanized shield, special shields), TBM (Tunnel Boring Machines), TSM (Tunnel Sequential Machines), blasting application. The New Austrian Tunnel Method - NATM, bolted support, gunite (shotcrete), stiil proping. The special methods of driving (overpressure - pressure above atmospheric, grouting, freezing, PERFOREX method etc.). The traffic tunnels, underground garages, subway crossings, urban underpasses, caverns. The underground space exploitation - underground urbanization, the settlement activity, the environmental and economical aspects. Microtunnelling. The underground structures in the future.
