Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to biotechnological processes used in water engineering and water industry. There is also a brief overview of technical procedures, physical and chemical water purification. The course is designed to prepare students for practice to gain a basic overview in the field.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to understand basic biotechnological processes used in sewage and water supply.
Syllabus
  • Biological treatment of wastewater; base principles; natural methods - irradiation, biological ponds and vegetative wastewater treatment; aerobic methods of wastewater treatment; anaerobic methods of wastewater treatment. Chemical and physical methods of waste water treatment. Water works hydrobiology; chemistry, microbiology and biology of drinking water, taste and odors caused by algae, source of drinking waters, reservoirs - biological characteristics and base principles of biological management and monitoring.
