- Phycology and Mycology (programme PřF, N-BOT)
- Course objectives
- To familiarize basic ecology of algae (cyanobacteria included);
To span the breadth of algal chemical ecology from the perspective of basic ecology;
To understand physic-chemical principles of algal ecology inside fresh-water, marine and (sub)aerial habitats;
To help algal ecologists understand the chemistry underlyimg chemical ecological studies;
The focus on geography and habitat with the relativelly wel-studied tropical and temperate marine communities and the relatively understudied freshwater and polar marine communities;
The utility of macroalgae across latitudes and habitats as models for testing and expanding broad ecological theories; - Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain different living strategies of algae and cyanobacteria; characterize most important habitats; discuss the differences and trends in freshwater, saline and terrestrial ecosystems; understand different adaptation strategies in extreme environments
