Course objectives
Essential molecular mechanisms controlling germ cells development, fertilization and early embryonic development in mammals will be presented. Also the most important causes of developmental failures and their consequences and currently used techniques and methods in human assisted reproduction and research focused on germ cells and embryos will be discussed.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: - understand the molecular mechanisms controlling development of germ cells and early embryos in mammals - characterize the major events during fertilization and subsequent early embryonic development in mammals - identify the most important causes of developmental failures of mammalian germ cells or early embryos - summarize the main methods and approaches used in artificial human reproduction
Syllabus
  • 1. Control mechanisms of chromosome segregation in somatic cells and germ cells (mitosis, meiosis). 2. Molecular mechanism controlling fertilization and early development in mammals. 3. Major chromosome segregation errors in germ cells and embryos, their causes and consequences for human reproduction. 4. Chromosomal rearangemets, their impact in evolution and consequences for human reproduction. 5. Current methods and appoaches in human assisted reproduction and techniques used to analyze chromosomal content of germ cells and embryos. 6. New trends and methods used in research focused on germ cells and embryos
