Course objectives
The aim of the course is: understanding the molecule as an electrical charge system; the behavior of dielectrics in the electric field; how the dipole moment is calculated and evaluated and how it relates to the structure of the molecule; what are the possibilities for measuring and computing dipole moments. The course the topics: (a)dielectric properties of liquids, crystals and colloidal systems; (b) intermolecular interactions; (c) dielectric loss, relaxation time together with the kinetic theory of dielectric relaxation and viscosity. The course takes into account the adsorption of molecules on the phase interface, the proton or ion transfer complexes and the charge transfer complexes.
Learning outcomes
After graduation of this course the student will be able: - to characterize and evaluate intermolecular interactions of different types (non-covalent interactions); - describe the behavior of dielectrics in the electric field; - determine dipole moments; - evaluate charge transfer processes.
