Course objectives
Aim of the course is to introduce students with somatometry, somatoscopy and with somatotype evaluation.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course studens will be able to use somatometrical methods and evaluate body composition and compute most important body indices.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction - history and contemporary perspective of development of methods
  • 2. Divergence of methods of biological anthropology
  •  sensual investigation
  •  investigation by physical instruments
  •  functional examination (fyziological, biochemical, chemical)
  • 3. Anamnesis
  •  importance of position in a survey
  • 4. Somatometry
  •  basic aspects, unification of methods, value
  •  somatometric laboratory
  •  instrumentarium (anthropometric instruments)
  •  procedure of measurement, condition
  • 5. Anthropometric landmarks
  •  at body
  •  at skull
  •  at ear
  • 6. Measurement of height measures and spanning of arms
  • 7. Measurement of latitudinal and depth measures and dimensions of thorax
  • 8. Measurement of length and latitudinal measures at upper extremity
  • 9. Measurement of length and latitudinal measures at lower exremity
  • 10. Measurement of circumerences of body
  • 11. Amount of weight, skin folds, analysis of body mass
