- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to familiarise students with basic biological techniques and with the methods of processing biological material. Special emphasis is placed on acquiring practical skills essential for conducting laboratory and demonstration-based biology teaching at primary and secondary schools – from working with a light microscope to preparing simple instructional and experimental specimens.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this practical course, students should be able - to use various techniques of light microscopy efficiently; - to prepare various kinds of zoological mounts; - to conduct simple biological experiment.
- Syllabus
- Native preparations. Vital staining. Whole mounts, sections, squashes, dry mounts. Fixation. Fixatives. Staining. Aqueous media. Non-aqueous mounting media. Histological technique. Documentation. Fluorescence. Preparation.
