- The purpose of the course is to provide information about basic histological methods and the types of tissues in the animal organisms.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students should be able to understand the basic histological methods (sample preparation, staining methods); to characterize the basic types of tissues in the animal organism; compare the various systems in selected invertebrates and vertebrates.
- Key topics
- Methods used in histology (tissue preparation, staining procedures). Comparison of light and electron microscopy.
- Epithelial tissue (structure, function, cell polarity, classification, localization)
- Connective tissue, cartilage, bone (structure, function, localization).
- Muscle tissue (skeletal, cardiac, smooth muscle, structure, function, localization).
- Nerve tissue (structure, function, localization).
- Comparison of the various systems in selected invertebrates and vertebrates. Cardiovascular system; digestive system; respiratory system; urinary system; integumentary system; reproductive system
