Abstract
The goal of this seminar is practical exercising of knowledges obtained in the course C2131 Introduction to bioinformatics.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: 1) Predict genes in DNA sequence. 2) Work with DNA and protein sequences. 3) Use prediction tools. 4) Use visualization tools.
Key topics
1) Main sources of bioinformatic data.
2) Genetic information, genetic code, codon table. DNA translation.
3) Amino acid nomenclature, single-letter and three-letter abbreviations.
4) Alignment. Matrix. Local and global alignment.
5) Identification of ORF within sequence.
6) Identification of palindromes.
7) RNA.
8) Distance matrix. Creation of phylogenetic trees.
9) Basic protein properties. Prediction tools.
10) Protein secondary structure prediction.
11) Bioinformatic tools for glycosylation prediction.
12-13) Visiting laboratories in the MUNI campus area.
