Approach to Migration in Europe & V4 countries

3. International Protection, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and its mandate, Statelessness - Tuesday 17.10.2017, 16:00-19:00

After a short explanation of the foundations of international protection in the Geneva Convention, the session will focus on the Common European Asylum System and the operation of the Dublin system in the European countries. Current trends in international protection and the application of the Dublin system in the V4 countries will be discussed. The second half of the session will be dedicated to the UNHCR mandate in the field of international protection. Finally, the legal framework of protecting people against statelessness will be introduced, again showing also the UNHCR mandate in this field. A UNHCR representative will be present to provide insight into the activities of UNHCR in the V4 region.
