Approach to Migration in Europe & V4 countries

4. Legal Migration - Tuesday 31.10.2017, 16:00-19:00

Introduction into the EU immigration policies. The session will explain how migration became regulated by the European Union law. It will go on to present shortly that the competence to managing migration is shared by national states and by the EU, and what implications it may have in practice. The purpose of migration (the reason for migration) is closely examined in allowing access to the EU, and while for some purposes EU law has been harmonized to a great extent (e. g. family reunion), for others minimum harmonization of the policies has been achieved (migration for the purpose of work). Part of the session will be dedicated to labour migration. In conclusion the consequence of losing the right to stay in the European Union will be shortly mentioned (so that lesson 6 may add on this).

Questions for those who missed the class:
Write about your own procedure of coming to the Czech Republic: what documents you needed, why you think they were important, what you found burdensome. Try to check with your country of origin, whether the same documents would be required.
