Week 02 - Sustainability of Digital Transformation

This lecture will discuss several concepts related to Sustainability, Digital Transformation (DT), and the interlink between Sustainability and DT. The sustainability of digital transformation refers to the capacity of an organization to maintain the long-term viability and positive impact of its digital transformation initiatives, ensuring that they align with environmental, social, and economic considerations while delivering enduring benefits. In other words, it involves not only implementing digital technologies and processes but also ensuring that these changes are ecologically responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable over time.

The aim of the course:

  1. Prepare students to address the critical challenges and opportunities at the intersection of technology and sustainability.
  2. Help students to drive positive environmental, social, and economic impacts through the responsible and sustainable use of digital technologies in a rapidly changing world.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Students learn about the fundamental concepts, technologies, and trends associated with the digitization of business processes, products, and services.
  2. Students learn how digital transformation can have a profound impact on sustainability in various domains, including business, environment, society, and government. They explore how technology can be harnessed to promote environmental and social responsibility.
  3. Students learn about sustainable IT practices, including energy-efficient technologies, e-waste management, and eco-friendly data centres.
  4. Students study how digital transformation can enable sustainable business practices, such as remote work, telecommuting, and reduced paper usage. They explore how to manage technology in a sustainable manner.
