Abstract

In 2015, the free open-source markdown package for LaTeX was created as a part of the FI MU Dean's program for student research and development projects. Five years down the road and the package boasts 130 stars on GitHub, has received funding from David Vins and the Omedym company, had a series of tutorials written by Overleaf staff, and was featured in several Czech [1, 2] and English [3–5] journal articles. In this talk, I will explain what the markdown package does, why is it useful, how it is implemented and used, and where we are headed in terms of future updates.
