12) Electricity Markets I 19. 5. 2021
Lectured by Tereza Stašáková (Analyst, EGÚ Brno, a. s.).
This session is meant to provide an overview of electricity markets. It
unravels the vast complexity of the domain and highlights major building blocks
of electricity trading. The information sources for the session are structured
as following:
First, what is the rationale for electricity
markets? Watch this video for a very general overview (you should be already
familiar with the first half).

In practice, there are multiple markets operated
within our electricity systems (capacity, day-ahead, intraday,
frequency/balancing) – make sure you know the difference between them, namely
what are these markets primarily used for and what it is that is traded there -
power (MW) or energy (MWh).

Zooming in to trading actual energy (MWh).
Again, there are multiple options how to do that. The following videos
introduce trading at power exchanges and bilateral trade contracts.
