In this section, we delve into School Management Systems (SMS), which are essential to modern educational administration and communication. 

As you progress, you'll discover the importance of these systems in increasing efficiency, facilitating seamless interaction between educators, students and parents, and supporting the management of academic and administrative tasks. We'll explore the leading SMS platforms in the Czech education landscape, including their features and impact on school operations.

Final assignment (outcome)

You have already completed half of the course and it is now time to set your final assignment. 


Your final assignment will be as follows:

  • Choose a chapter from our e-learning that you consider to be the most important for your professional development.
  • Choose a specific topic from this chapter that you will study in depth.
  • Discuss your chosen topic by e-mail with the e-learning tutor (simkova@ped.muni.cz) by 19 May at the latest.
  • Once your topic has been approved, you can start working on it.
  • You can use any appropriate online tool to help you present the topic better (mind map tool, diagrams, flowcharts, learning objects ....).
  • Add the link to the finished project in the drop box.
  • The scope is not specified. Work on your chosen topic in such a way that you gain new knowledge and skills, but also in such a way that you are happy to present it to your classmates.

This module aims to:
  • Explain the concept of school management system
  • Present the most widespread information (management) systems in the Czech school environment
  • Identify the main features of the online classbook
  • Explore the main functions of electronic gradebook
As you read, ask yourself the following reflective questions:

  1. Why do the majority of primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic prefer to use electronic school management systems instead of traditional analogue systems (paper classbooks, paper gradebooks...)?
  2. What are the disadvantages of using electronic classbook for teachers?
  3. What disadvantages can the use of an electronic gradebook have for students/pupils?
