This lecture will introduce current possibilities of user tracking in the internet environment, including the legal framework currently applicable to this topic. Since the introduction of GDPR directive and the following legislation related to user tracking technologies (the so-called cookies consent), digital fingerprinting is gaining momentum, especially due to the fact that it does not require the end user’s consent. The lecture aims to inform and provide an opportunity for a healthy discussion for both what is possible today, and what ethical issues it brings.
