Study-related information

  • Parts of the final state examination and its content
A record containing a list of seminary works written in analytical tutorials, a list of study stays abroad and performed working experience (practice) and a list of literature read by the student must be delivered upon the registration to the Final State examination (FSE). The Final state examination is composed of the defence of a bachelor thesis, and the examination proper.
The defence of the bachelor thesis consists of two parts: 1) presentations of thesis and reviews, and 2) discussion answering questions from reviews or additional questions
    B) The examination proper has three parts focused on fundamental theoretical profile core courses (philological parts: linguistic terminology, scripts, phonetics and phonology, lexicology, grammar and syntax; non-philological part: geography, economy, history, literature, culture): 1) A theoretical philological part which proves the knowledge of linguistic terminology. The special linguistic terminology is examined in reference to various philological disciplines and approaches to the language. 2) A practical philological part proves the ability to apply terminology and analyse examples of Vietnamese sentences. This part proves the ability to analyse on the level of phonetics and phonology, lexicology, grammar and syntax. Some examples are prepared in advance, other examples are though up by the examinee according to questions posed through the discussion, in order to show his/her own knowledge and language proficiency on the level B1. 3) A facts-based part of the examination aims to prove knowledge of Vietnamese history, geography, economy, literature and culture. One question of this part is related to the basic set of broader issues (corresponding to compulsory lectures from history, geography, economy, literature and culture) and other two questions are related to the broader set of more detailed issues (corresponding to analytical tutorials on the history, geography, economy, literature and culture).
  • Requirements of the study
Study duties include the completion of common university base subjects (15 credits), compulsory subjects (= profile core courses: 140 credits), elective subjects (= also profile core courses: 25 credits) and optional subjects (60 credits) with the total number of 240 credits required. The compulsory subjects include a working experience (practice) in Czech Republic (or abroad) and one-semester-long stay abroad. In justified cases (e.g. a health disadvantage, etc.), the working practice and the stay abroad can be replaced by follow-up courses of Vietnamese conversation and optional subjects. The subject “Practical socio-cultural aspects of Vietnamese studies” has a special position in the curriculum. Selected professional specialists will participate in this subject and a part of the instruction will be realized in cooperation with the Vietnamese community.

All compulsory subjects are also profile core courses of the study program. During the course of the first and second year, the student has to finish a major part of linguistic courses (Vj1, Vj2, Vj3, Vj4, Vu1, Vu4) and other courses related to non-philological areas (Vs1, Vs2, Vs3, Vs4, Vu3) as well as common university base subjects and Practical socio-cultural aspects of Vietnamese Studies (Vu2). The course of Vietnamese conversation continues as a compulsory permanent advanced course (Vk789x). This course is optional only for those who has finished the study with two-semester stays abroad.
