Course objectives
The course covers a set of selected experiments that enable to demonstrate the majority of the important laboratory techniques in the context of some interesting chemical problems. In this way rational approaches to the common operations involved in the synthesis, separation and characterization of different, mainly air-sensitive compounds may be exercized.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- identify suitable syntetic methods for laboratory synthesis of selected inorganic compounds;
- extract from literature necessary procedures, starting materials and caveats of the selected syntetic method;
- prepare laboratory instruments and starting materials for the synthesis of selected inorganic compound;
- safely carry out syntetic reactions, isolate products, establish yields, identify possible sideproducts;
- unequivocally characterize desired product by available instrumental methods;

Teaching methods
Laboratory course, literature search, practical execution of synthetic experiments
Assessment methods
Laboratory course with mandatory attendance, students have to perform all synthetic experiments and submit for evaluation laboratory protocols and prepared products. Their results are graded.
