Cíle předmětu
The course provides essential knowledge about Public Policy process and explains why and how it is useful for economists. The aim of the course is to give the students a chance to understand principles of public policy as well as understand link between policy and economics issues. Students will be also able to understand and partly analyze selected current policy issues.
Výstupy z učení
Students will be able to
- understand basic public policy approaches and their meaning for economics
- find arguments for as well as against a given policy issue
- analyse (at a basic level) selected policy issues
- identify the economic consequences of selected policy problems and issues.
- see the complexity of public policy and be able to avoid making simplified statements about policy issues.

  • Part 1 Introduction to public policy
  • - Public policy - basic principles, values, and concepts for public policies study
  • - Policy formulation and design and the role of policy actors
  • - Policy aims and instruments
  • - Policy implementation and evaluation
  • - Introduction to methods of of public policy research
  • Part 2 – Selected topics - case studies. At the beginning of the course the list of topics will be announced. This approach enables to follow actual cases and issues as well as an invitation of incoming academics from foreign universities or experts from practical field. For example:
  • - Economic dimension of policy evaluation
  • - Public policy towards the civil society

Výukové metody
The course is organized as lectures and class discussions. Teaching is in English, together with the BPV_AIPP course.
Metody hodnocení
To successfully complete the course, the student need to - gain at least 5 point via activities during semester as e.g. an online midterm test, quizzes, dicussion contest - have at least four attendances - Take the final test (exam) All activities are rewarded with points. Based on a total sum of points, the grade is set.
Details are set and explained at the beginning of the semester and published in the study materials (interactive syllabus in IS).
The final grade is a total sum. Grades are set as follows E 60+, D 66+, C 73+, B 82+, A92+. If the student enrols in the course at the time of his/her trip abroad, he/she can replace the group presentation with an assignment specified by the lecturer.
