• Willingness to communicate in an international environment and share your experiences, ideas, and opinions.
• The maximum number of students is 20. An additional 3 students may be admitted based on a motivation letter submitted through the Information System.

Cíle předmětu
• To provide students with a solid orientation in Sport Economics and Policy.
• To explain the role of governments and sports institutions in the context of sport policy and public expenditures on sport.
• To explore the specific characteristics of the sports industry as a business sector.
• To interconnect economic and political perspectives on issues related to both amateur and professional sport.
• To critically discuss selected contemporary issues in sport, such as the gender pay gap, the environmental impact of sporting activities, and salary disparities between male and female professional athletes.

• Demonstrate an understanding of the significance of sport and sport policy in both developed and developing countries.
• Analyze and critically discuss specific issues related to the sports sector.
• Gain insight into the role of government at both central and local levels in shaping sport policy.

  • o Why Professional Sports is a peculiar topic for economists and why sports policy should not be overlooked by public authorities?

Metody hodnocení
To successfully complete this course, students must fulfill the following requirements:

• Attendance: A minimum of 60% attendance at lectures and seminars is required.
• Voluntary Activities: Students must earn at least 10 points during the semester through voluntary activities.
• Final Exam: The written test has a maximum score of 90 points. To pass, students must achieve a minimum of 50 points.


ATTENDANCE POLICY
• Students are required to attend at least 60% of lectures and seminars.
o Note: For the Autumn Semester 2025, 60% attendance corresponds to attendance at 7 sessions (i.e. both lecture and seminar).
• Note: This course has a shorter structure than is usual, with 2 teaching hours per week divided between the lecture and seminar without a break. Therefore, arriving midway through the session is discouraged, as the seminar portion relies on knowledge introduced in the lecture.


VOLUNTARY ACTIVITIES DURING A SEMESTER
Students can earn up to 20 points through the following voluntary activities. At least 10 points are required for course completion:
• Excellent Attendance: Students with more than 75% attendance at lectures and seminars receive 5 points.
o Note: For the Autumn Semester 2025, 75% attendance corresponds to attendance at 9 sessions (i.e. both lecture and seminar).
• Midterm Test: An online test conducted during the reading week. Up to 5 points can be awarded.
• Team Presentation: Teams of 2–3 students prepare and deliver a presentation on a selected topic. The expected length is 8 minutes. 4 points will be awarded. (Note: This option is limited and not guaranteed for all students.)
• Data Analysis: Individual students analyze a specific issue according to instructions and present the results on one slide, accompanied by a 2–3 minute commentary. 3 points will be awarded.
• Final Lesson Test: A short test with one open-ended question covering course content. Students may earn 1–3 points.

THE EXAM
• The final assessment is a written test consisting of multiple-choice questions, each with one correct answer.
• The maximum score on the test is 90 points.
• To pass the course and receive a grade, students must achieve a minimum of 50 points on the final test, regardless of any points earned during the semester.

Grading: The final grade is based on the total number of points earned during the semester and on the final exam.

Náhradní absolvování
This course is elective, so a participation in a present form is required. A genuine interest in sport, as well as a willingness to share your experiences and opinions, is expected.
