Cíle předmětu

The course is designed to provide students with knowledge of various sports disciplines and related topics while developing their reading comprehension, and oral and written skills in English. By the end of the course, students are expected to have reached the B2 level of the CEFR.

Výstupy z učení

Graduates of this course will acquire academic English skills related to studying various sports disciplines. By the end of this course, students will be able to present and defend their viewpoints and propose solutions to problems in different sports areas, such as motivation, ethics or nutrition. They will advance in notetaking, summarizing, interpreting and discussing ideas from different videos or short articles. They will be able to use relevant vocabulary and grammar for communicating effectively in the academic environment. They will be able to present a poster related to relevant topics.

1st Week: Motivation in sports, expressing opinions, arguments, revision of tenses 2nd Week: Ethics in sports, discussing ethical issues from various points of view, summary writing 3rd Week: Doping and cheating in sports, game 4th Week: Sports and nutrition, banned substances, modal verbs 5th Week: Sports and nutrition,giving dietary tips, instructions 6th Week: Sports and politics, game 7th Week: Sports and politics, the history of the Olympic Games, critical thinking, infinitive + -ing forms 8th Week: Human body and sports, conditional clauses 9th Week: Tournaments, ice-hockey, game 10th Week: University games, relative clauses 11th Week: Revision lesson 12th Week: Poster presentations 13th Week: Poster presentations

Výukové metody

Language seminar: speaking,reading, listening, writing, presenting

Metody hodnocení

The course is taught in the form of seminars. Students will find the weekly topics in the interactive syllabus section ("interaktivní osnova") and are expected to prepare them for the following classes. During the semester, they will complete a set of online assignments, which serve as a prerequisite for the exam. The course also includes three online games designed to enhance students’ vocabulary and deepen their knowledge of sports-related topics. The course is completed by an exam consisting of a written online test (listening, reading, grammar, writing) and an oral part in the form of poster presentations. The online test takes place in the computer room C15, 207.
