Cíle předmětu
This module explores the ethical character of international relations. Over a period of several decades ethical questions have taken a place of central importance alongside social scientific approaches to the study of international relations. The renaissance of international ethics, or normative theory as it is sometimes called, can be traced to the influence of the Vietnam War and to the revival of interest in the idea of justice in political theory. The nuclear standoff between the United States and Soviet Union during the Cold War and a succession of humanitarian crises in the 1990s accentuated the fact that international relations cannot be reduced to a purely instrumental contest for wealth and power. This module takes as its point of departure the belief that international relations, like all realms of human conduct, is unavoidably entangled in ethical questions that speak to what is right and good.

At the end of this module you should be able to: 1. Describe basic concepts and languages of international ethics; 2. Demonstrate knowledge of different kinds of ethical argument; 3. Integrate these languages in advancing arguments that engage a range of global issues; 4. Evaluate the coherence and integrity of these arguments.

Metody hodnocení
The module assessment scheme is intended to measure a range of skills. These include oral and written expression, and the capacity for independent research. Assessment Weighting: Examination 100%. The date and time of the examination will be confirmed by the Registry. The exam paper will consist of eight questions, organised in two sections of four each. You will be expected to answer one question from each of the two sections
