Cíle předmětu
The aim of the course is to exercise students’ critical thinking and develop their critical awareness of discursive devices with ideological underpinnings employed in the media. The students will learn key concepts and tools of methodology known as critical discourse analysis and will apply these in practice, investigating media representations of minorities. They will examine the dialectical relationship between language and society, with the focus on the link between language, power and ideology.
Výstupy z učení
Students will be able to:
- critically read and interpret a variety of media texts
- identify the link between discursive devices in media texts and constructions of social power relationships
- detect ideology conveyed in media discourse
- discern media stereotypes of minorities
- employ persuasive devices in discourse
