Cíle předmětu
This lecture will present selected topics of jurisprudence and will discuss them in the light of the historical development of their philosophical and theoretical reflection. Like this, similarities and differences in approaching the same questions related to the concept, the structure, the value and the purpose of law over time and the role of specific historical and political contexts for generating different outcomes will be made visible. Applying this vertical structure, the following topics will be discussed: the concept of law; sources of law; legal validity; natural law vs. legal positivism; law and society/law and state; social contract theory; government and its legitimacy.

Výukové metody
Students are expected to prepare reading assignments (extracts from original texts of legal philosophers) before each class in order to be able to actively and in an informed way contribute to discussions during after lectures.
Metody hodnocení
Grading will be based on an oral exam at the end of the semester on the basis of the lectures in class and underlying reading materials distributed during class.
