Cíle předmětu
The seminar will present recent insights in the way in which technology develops, and show how these insights challenge us to fundamentally rethink ethics, not just some specific ethical points of view, but the overall way in which we do ethics. The seminar will be organized in an interactive way, consisting of short presentations, group discussions and feedback.
Osnova
  • The seminar will go further than a discussion of the common (and valid) thesis that “modern technologies” raise “new ethical questions challenges”. The seminar will consist of two sessions, and each session will consist of two units of one hour each. In the first three units we will discuss major results of recent studies on the way technology functions in society. In each of these units we will discuss the possibilities and limits of the way we traditionally see ethical questions linked to technology and medicine, and the way we traditionally deal with those questions. It will become evident than, that we are challenged to rethink ethics, not just some ethical points of view, but the overall way we do ethics. In the last session we will compile ideas about a realistic way to proceed.
