Course objectives
The course Intensive Care, Nursing Care in Pediatrics, integrates knowledge from basic scientific disciplines, natural, social and behavioral sciences and builds on knowledge from anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and nursing care. It is conceived as theoretical-practical, with the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, through the practice of selected nursing interventions used in pediatrics and intensive care. The course teaches students to divide childhood, understand the peculiarities of childhood, introduces them to the care of healthy and sick children, focuses on physiological and pathological newborns, psychomotor development of the child, the most common injuries in children, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, acute conditions in pediatrics, infectious diseases in children and the specifics of radiological examination of a pediatric patient. The course presents medical-preventive and nursing care in intensive pediatric care.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
define the physiological and pathological newborn;
describe intensive nursing care for a pathological newborn;
divide childhood and understand the peculiarities of childhood;
characterize psychomotor development in a child in individual developmental periods;
communicate with a child of all ages;
measure and evaluate vital signs;
describe injuries and know the preventive measures of injuries in children;
know the algorithms of CPR in a child;
define acute conditions in a child;
define pediatric intensive care;
describe infectious diseases in children;
prepare the child for diagnostic examination in radiology.

  • Orientation in medical and nursing documentation.
  • Training of selected nursing interventions (manipulation with the child, measurement of vital functions, provision of a peripheral venous cannula, introduction of catheters and probes, pharmacological peculiarities).
