Course objectives
At the end of this course a student will be able to understand structure of the human cell, histology of the eye tissue, parameters of the eye. The student will be able to explain and to interpret terms tunica vaculosa, tunica interna, inner spaces of the eyeball, visual pathway, visual brain centers, blood and nervous supply of the eye, helping and protecting organs of the eye. The student works with information from embryology, it means developing stages of the eye and accessories organs, inborn anomalies, hereditary of the eye diseases. This three-semester subject is fundamental, didactically the student acquaint with the basic concepts, in the subsequent semesters he/she consolidates and more complex studies the problematics of eye structures.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course a student will be able to understand structure of the human cell, histology of the eye tissue, parameters of the eye.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to ocular anatomy, basic histological terminology, anatomy of the ocular adnexa, layers of the eyeball, anatomy of compartments of the eyeball, optic nerve, visual pathway, visual cortical centre anatomy, general overview of the brain anatomy, motor, sensitive and sensory innervation of the eye, blood supply to the eye.
  • Physiology of vision – light perception, eyes optical aberrations, physiological contrast, visual acuity, accommodation, convergence, adaptation, visual field, color vision.
