Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students - using case studies - to various forms of religion as well as to theoretical issues concerning their social-scientific study. At the end of this course, students should have basic understanding of various social functions and roles of religions in various contexts, how and why various phenomena are labelled religious, what basic methodological problems are related to the study of religions.

  • (1) Introduction to the Study of Religions; (2) Christianity in contemporary world; (3) Modern forms of religious life, new fileds of social conflict; (4) Religiosity of Romanies; (5) Religions of China - diverse perspective.
