Cíle předmětu
The project Old Stories For Modern Times utilizes Folktales and Folksongs to explore the connection between cultural legacy and current societal conflicts (such as domestic violence, poverty, and intolerance of difference). These topics are important part of the curriculum of future educators. The students will experience one of the possible attitude to this work.
Výstupy z učení
Learning outcomes: At the end of the course, students will: • Demonstrate critical understanding of given topics • Demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and respect to diversity in society in educational context • Apply the various techniques of theatre through understanding of the social reality (holistic: physical, emotional and intellectual). • Design and produce research-based socially engaged theatre project
Osnova
  • The project is held in three phases: 1) Research, 2) Devising/Rehearsal, and 3) Performance. Dr. Litwak will work with students to research and gather source materiál throught e-mail communication. She will then travel to Brno to work directly with research students to develop a working rehearsal script. She will then lead an intensive four-day workshop, engaging students in a process of devising material, building characters, and text. She will then write and direct a performance for the community with post show engagement and discussion.

Výukové metody
The course instruction will include: interactive teaching methods (e.g. group/pair work), drama techniques, e-mail communication, in-class international guest speaker lecture, interactive theatre performance.

Dr. Jessica Litwak, PhD, RDT (www.jessicalitwak.com) is an award-winning playwright, actor, drama therapist and recognized leader in the field of socially engaged theatre. She is an innovative educator, director, and puppet builder who works all over the world. Litwak is a graduate of RADA, NYU, Columbia University and Antioch University with a BFA in acting, an MFA in playwriting and a Ph.D. in Leadership and Change. Her company the H.E.A.T. Collective (www.heatcollective.org) produces workshops, events, and productions that bring together the practices of Healing, Education, and Activism through Theatre. She has worked extensively in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, India, and throughout Central, Eastern, and Western Europe. Litwak is a trained practitioner of Playback, Psychodrama, and Theatre of the Oppressed. As the Founder and Artistic Director of The New Generation Theatre Ensemble (www.ngte.org) she built training and performance opportunities for youth. She conducts ongoing theatre and drama therapy workshops at Greenhope, a facility for formerly incarcerated women. She is a convener of the Arts and Peace Commission for The International Peace and Research Association and an arts curator for The Rhodes campaign for European City of Culture. She is a core member and on the steering committee of Theatre Without Borders. She is a Fulbright Scholar.
