Cíle předmětu
Students will learn:
Selected knowledge from the development of American drama in the second half of the 20th century
To critically evaluate dramatic works by one of the most important conteporary playwrights and analyze them in context
Výstupy z učení
Po absolvování předmětu student bude umět:
- rozebrat díla jednoho z nejvýznamnějších amerických dramatiků 20. století - Arthura Millera;
- analyzovat dramatický text;
- analyzovat divadelní představení;
- identifikovat významné prvky děl A. Millera z mnoha různých pohledů a teoretických pozic;
- napsat studii o divadelním představení či dramatu a zasadit je do kontextu vývoje díla dramatika A. Millera.

The course will be taught once in two weeks, with a long break. Therefore, the meetings need to be intensive. Some previous knowledge will be required of:
- Plays: All My Sons, Death of a Salesmanand The Crucible and their (1) most important interpretations, (2) staging history and (3) film adaptation. Make sure you are familiar with typical views of the main characters (Joe Keller, Willy Loman, and John Proctor) - what they stand for and how their interpretations may have changed over time. - Criticim: A detailed knowledge of Bigsby's chapter on Miller from his Modern American Drama, 1945-2000 is expected before the course begins.
