Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
outline the situation at the Roman literary scene prior to 240 B.C. (the starting point of the idependent Roman literary tradition);
recall the periodization of the Roman literature and describe the main characteristics of each literary period;
point at the links between the Greek and Roman literature and summarize the Roman contribution to the body of the ancient literature;
name the most important representatives of the Roman literature.

Teaching methods
The course is taught as lectures.
Assessment methods
Written test based on the lectured matter. Participation in the classes is recommended. The students with insufficient participation will be tested both by written test and oral examination. Successfull completion of the course is one of the prerequisites of the qualifying exam.
