Cíle předmětu
Course objectives
The course introduces the subject of intercultural psychology, namely interactions between people from different cultures, or more generally from different social groups. The course defines the area of intercultural psychology with respect to related psychological disciplines such as cultural, cross-cultural, indigenous psychology, or psychology of intergroup relations. During six units, the course familiarizes students with key topics of intercultural psychology: Identity, acculturation, communication, barriers to intercultural exchanges, and intercultural aspects of work and organizational psychology. Emphasis will be placed on the acquisition of intercultural competencies.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- describe the subject of intercultural psychology;
- define the focus of intercultural psychology in relation to related psychological disciplines;
- identify key themes in intercultural psychology;
- provide examples of typologies of cultures and resulting characteristics of their members;
- explain the impact of culture on identity;
- understand and acquire skills for effective intercultural communication;
- efficiently prevent and overcome barriers to harmonious intercultural interactions;
- apply the insights from intercultural psychology to work and organization.
