Cíle předmětu
Assessment and testing are essential parts of the educational process. First, this course will examine the theory of assessment in education, a fast-growing field with a strong theoretical and empirical base. Then, putting this theoretical knowledge to the test (pun intended), we will construct tests ourselves, focusing on assessment in the area of English as a Second Language (ESL), in which both the test developers as well as the test-takers are faced with additional challenges of cultural differences and cultural bias.
Výstupy z učení
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be sufficiently conversant with the terminology fundamental to the field of educational assessment theory so as to be able to discuss the theory with confidence. In addition, they will have gained the practice necessary to construct their own ESL tests, with specific regard to the validity and reliability of the test design.
