This ON-LINE elective course is intended for bachelor's students of COMBINED form or DISTANCE studies.

All the work is done independently; that is, there are NO CONTACT HOURS WITH A TEACHER during the semester. There are opportunies to meet other students on-line during the semester, primarily through the written Discussion Forum (through IS). During the exam period, you will meet in a small group (including the teacher) to give your on-line presentation.

Designed as PREPARATION for cjva2p (the compulsory English course), cjva1p is intended for students who have an intermediate/upper-intermediate knowledge of English and are willing to work independently.

Cíle předmětu
This ON-LINE course is aimed at developing general and academic language skills (including appropriate grammar and vocabulary), as well as those needed by students in their field of study. The course deals with:

1. presentation development - students must prepare an on-line over-voiced audio-visual presentation (6-8 minutes) on a topic relating to an aspect of the student's study area or interest. Presentation preparation also involves improving abilities in leading/participating in on-line written discussions and responding to questions, requests, or comments appropriately through on-line written discussion forums.

2. Reading - working with academic texts that relate to the areas of study of FA students, and developing orientation, comprehension, and summarizing skills in relation to the readings.

3. Writing - expanding skills of summary writing, expressing ideas, and writing texts that pertain to the student's field of study.

4. Listening - developing aural comprehension in the context of tasks based on understanding the main ideas of audio/video extracts, as well as specific details.
Výstupy z učení
At the completion of the course, the student is able to do the following at a level of at least B1+ (CEFR):

1. Give a short presentation based on the criteria presented in the course, and respond appropriately to discussion questions posed afterwards; speak spontaneously and comprehensibly in the context of a discussion session (e.g. discussions, expressing one's own ideas, paraphrasing, critiquing and summarizing others' ideas, including those that are in person, recordings and texts).

2. Read, understand and work with academic texts;

3. Write a variety of short texts (e.g. email correspondence, academic summary and other texts that pertain to the student's field of study);

4. Understand spoken language in the context of discussions, presentations, videos and audio recordings.

Metody hodnocení
This ON-LINE course is organized in an independent e-learning form; students work with study materials individually. There are NO CONTACT HOURS WITH A TEACHER during the semester.

Requirements for course completion:

- short oral presentation (6-8 minutes) on a topic relating to an aspect of the student's study area or interest. This will be done during the exam period and should be based on the structure provided in the Presentation Skills seminar and on the Presentation Criteria posted in the Study Materials folders.

- submission of a short written summary of your presentation TOPIC to be submitted before you give your presentation (150-200 words) and based on the Study Materials

- your Language Learning Log to be handed in after you give your presentation (about 100 entries)
