Cíle předmětu
The course explores the work of Jiri Levy, an outstanding figure in Czech literary theory and, especially, theory of translation. We shall study Umeni prekladu and Ceske teorie prekladu as well as other works by Levy. Students will be asked to read his work and compare it (a) to the work of other scholars, (b) to the literary texts that Levy refers to. In some cases, the parallel literary corpus Kacenka will be used to verify Levy's claims. We shall discuss the roots of his work, its reception abroad and its significance in the light of modern theories.
