- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic statistical concepts, the development of statistical research, quantitative methods in historical research, stages and techniques of history statistics work, describing one-dimensional statistical sets and the issue of medium values as well as the degree of variation, indexes, time series and ways of equalizing them. Basic information will also be provided on working with multidimensional statistical sets. These topics will be explained to students using the example of statistical analysis of sources of a mass nature from various time periods from the Middle Ages right up to the 20th century.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to apply elementary statistical procedure to the analyses historical sources from the Middle Ages to 19th century.

- 3.Middle Ages: Urbaria and seigniorial accounts
- 4.Middle Ages: Options for processing “serial” sources (testaments etc.)
- 5.Development of statistics in the early modern age and overview of basic sources
- 6.Options for processing sources of seigniorial administration from the protostatistical period (land registers)
- 7.Options for processing sources of provincial administration from the protostatistical period (cadastres)

- Teaching methods
- In the seminar students work with sources and with instructions and guidance from the lecturer independently analyse selected sources and familiarize themselves with their informative potential and limitations.
- Assessment methods
- The course concludes with an exam, which includes producing a seminar work and passing a final test focused on knowledge of the main concepts and (proto)statistical sources.
