Course objectives
At the end of the course students get familiar with basic palaeoecological methods and are able to describe a discuss the results.
Learning outcomes
After finishing each student will: - have knowledge about the basic palaeoecological methods, types of sediments and possibilities of their dating; - know which method is appropriate for which reseach, - be able to create age-depth model based on radiocarbon dating; - be able to read and understand palaeoecological diagrams and papers; - be able to sythetise knowledge from several palaeoecological studies and write short text with main conclusions.

  • 1) Introduction, literature, methods;
    2) geomorfological and lithological record (sands, river terraces, loesses, colluvia, (peri)glacial sediments, organic sediments, carbonats);
    3) macrofossil analysis;
    4) determination of wood based on its anatomy;
    5) dating methods;
    6) pollen analysis;
    7) diatom analysis;
    8) analysis of chironomids;
    9) molluscs analysis;
    10) antrakological analysis;
    11) quantitative reconstruction of environment and analysis of testate amoebae;

    4) lithological record (organic sediments, carbonate deposits);
    5) biological record – pollen analysis;
    6) macrofossil and testate amoebae analyses;
    7) vertebratological analysis;
    8) malacological analysis;
    9) other analyses (chironomids, diatoms);
    10) dating methods;
    11) data processing (diagrams), multi-proxy studies, stratigrafy;

At the end of the course students get familiar with basic palaeoecological methods and are able to describe a discuss the results.
Learning outcomes
After finishing each student will: - have knowledge about the basic palaeoecological methods, types of sediments and possibilities of their dating; - know which method is appropriate for which reseach, - be able to create age-depth model based on radiocarbon dating; - be able to read and understand palaeoecological diagrams and papers; - be able to sythetise knowledge from several palaeoecological studies and write short text with main conclusions.

    2) geomorfological and lithological record (sands, river terraces, loesses, colluvia, (peri)glacial sediments, organic sediments, carbonats);
    3) macrofossil analysis;
    4) determination of wood based on its anatomy;
    5) dating methods;
    6) pollen analysis;
    7) diatom analysis;
    8) analysis of chironomids;
    9) molluscs analysis;
    10) antrakological analysis;
    11) quantitative reconstruction of environment and analysis of testate amoebae;
    12) excursion on the selected locality

Během cvičení se posluchači seznámí se základními determinačními postupy pro jednotlivé typy pylových zrn a spor i pro hlavní typy makroskopických rostlinných zbytků, nalézaných v kvartérních sedimentech (semena, mechy, příp. dřeva).

Během cvičení se posluchači seznámí se základními determinačními postupy pro jednotlivé typy pylových zrn a spor i pro hlavní typy makroskopických rostlinných zbytků, nalézaných v kvartérních sedimentech (semena, mechy, příp. dřeva).

  • Makroskopické rostlinné zbytky ke studiu:
  • Vodní: Potamogeton, Nuphar, Batrachim.
  • Bažinné: Carex gracilis, C. elata, C. diandra, Stellaria media, Bidens, Scutellaria galericulata, Sparganium, Galium, Alisma plantago-aquatica, Schoenoplectus lacustris, Calla palustris, Lycopus europaeus, Cicuta virosa, Oenanthe aquatica.
  • Rašeliništní: Carex nigra (fusca), C. canescens, C. lasiocarpa, C. rostrata, C. panicea, Molinia, Eriophorum angustifolium, Rhynchospora alba, Comarum palustre, Menyanthes trifoliata, Viola palustris, Pedicularis palustris. Eriophorum vaginatum, Andromeda polifolia, Oxycoccus quadripetalus, Scheuchzeria palustris.
  • Ostatní: Taraxacum, Filipendula ulmaria, Lychnis flos-cuculi, Cirsium palustre, Rumex, Polygonum lapathifolium, P. bistorta, Chenopodium, Ranunculus acris, Rubus, Potentilla erecta, Vaccinium, Lysimachia vulgaris.
