Course objectives
Objective of the lecture are statistical methods which can be applied in evaluation of experimental data in life sciences. Hypothesis testing for qualitative and quantitative data, errors in data and calculations, and the use of regression and correlation analysis in biochemistry and biotechnology are presented.
Syllabus
  • Application of statistical methods in evaluation of experimental data in life sciences.
  • Fundamental characteristics, differences in chemical and biological data, a type of distribution.
  • Confidence intervals, null and alternative hypotheses, the use of Poisson distribution for the testing of microbiological data.
  • Testing qualitative data, determination of the effects of bioactive substances.
  • Linear regression and correlation in life sciences. Linear regression in analysis error calculation.
  • Non-linear regression and its application in bioprocess models. Testing linear and non-linear models in biotechnology and biochemistry.
