master's full-time single-subject, language of instruction: Czech
Included in the programme: FF N-PLIN_ Computational Linguistics
Parts of the final state examination and its content
The final exam consists of two parts: Thesis defense in form of a computer presentation and an oral exam; both take part in front of an examination board. The defense: The student presents his work, responds to comments from supervisor’s and reader’s report, and answers the questions asked by the examination board. The student's ability to present the topic and results of their work, defend their conclusions and react appropriately is assessed.
The oral exam is to test student's knowledge of thematic areas published on the website of the Institute of Czech Language, Faculty of Arts, MU. Students have 30 minutes after receiving questions to prepare. The three-member committee tests the knowledge of computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, and natural language processing, as well as Czech language (especially the development of its written form and its typological classification in context of other languages). The aim of the state exam is to test student's knowledge of algorithmic thinking, language description in all its levels (phonetic/phonological, morphological and syntactic), advanced techniques in natural language processing, formal grammars and language models. The knowledge of the development of the field of computational linguistics is also tested. The exam tests the knowledge gained during the four semesters of Master’s studies in compulsory theoretical courses and profile courses.
