Introductory information / Instructions

In the first and second year of study, every student has to pass the common university core courses and a larger set of compulsory, elective and optional subjects. All compulsory and elective courses are also profile core courses of the study program (Vietnamese Studies). Then a smaller number of courses as well as internship and one semester study abroad remain for the third and fourth year of study. From the beginning of the third year, the study is focused on the preparation of Bachelor's thesis. Prescribed numbers of credits comprise credits from common university base courses (15 credits), courses related to the Bachelor's thesis (16 credits), compulsory courses (124 credits) elective courses (25 credits) and optional courses (60 credits), i.e. 240 credits in total. An individual selection of elective and optional courses and especially the topic of Bachelor's thesis as well as the internship and a study abroad allow for the student’s individual study profile and plan. A second study abroad can cover a substantial part of credits in optional courses.

All compulsory subjects are also profile core courses of the study program. During the course of the first and second year, the student has to finish a major part of linguistic courses (Vj1, Vj2, Vj3, Vj4, Vu1, Vu4) and other courses related to non-philological areas (Vs1, Vs2, Vs3, Vs4, Vu3) as well as common university base subjects and Practical socio-cultural aspects of Vietnamese Studies (Vu2). The third year is dedicated to advanced courses in lexicology (Vj5), grammar and syntax (Vj6), economy and literature of Vietnam (Vs5, Vs6). The fourth year is planned for a study abroad (Vzahr1) and internship (Vprac1) – it is possible to pass these two courses even during first three years with corresponding postponement of study duties. The courses of practical Vietnamese conversation continue throughout all three years of study (Vk1, Vk2, Vk3, Vk4, Vk5, Vk6) and the sixth semester (Vk6) is finished with a standardized exam on the B1 level according to ERF. The course of Vietnamese conversation continues as a compulsory permanent advanced course (Vk789x). This course is optional only for those who has finished the study with two-semester stays abroad. The course is also a substitution of Vk1 to Vk6 in the case of an early study abroad. The third and fourth year is also dedicated to writing the Bachelor’s thesis and to the remaining elective and optional courses. In particular cases (health problems etc.), the Internship (Vprac1) and Study abroad (Vzahr1) can be replaced by an ongoing course of Vietnamese conversation (Vk789x) with a corresponding higher number of elective or optional courses.
