Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesis

The state doctoral examination is oral and consists of a discussion on thematic areas, which the doctoral student agrees with the members of the appointed commission (each member of the commission assigns 1-2 areas) after consultation and with the consent of the supervisor and chairman of the program council. Areas are chosen on the basis of the study program and should test the doctoral student's knowledge and his ability to discuss and present his own opinions and concepts. The Commission takes the final decision by secret ballot and evaluates the results as "passed" or "failed" and complements them with marks A, B, C, D, E, F.

Requirements of the study

For access to the doctoral examination and defending the dissertation, the student must obtain a total of 240 credits, which are divided into compulsory (170 credits) and compulsory elective (total min. 70 credits) subjects, which are divided into three blocks: theoretical subjects (min. 30 credits), another world language (min. 5 credits) and elective courses (min. 30 credits).
The vast majority of partial study duties in the doctoral program are connected with the preparation and elaboration of a dissertation (under the supervision of a supervisor), which has the character of a comprehensive professional monograph based on original research.
Compulsory activities of the student are formulated in an individual study plan and in addition to general, specialized and theoretical courses include the student's own research and creative activities and its presentation (in the form of publishing and conference activities), teaching practice and study abroad.
The three compulsory subjects are focused on the student's professional training and are directly connected with the preparation of the dissertation: General Methodology, Doctoral Seminar (enrollment repeatedly in the 1st, 3rd and 5th / 7th semester) and Specialization Seminar (enrollment repeatedly in the 2nd 4th and 6th / 8th semester of study).
The student's own creative activity and its presentation and pedagogical practice (all in close connection with the topic of the prepared dissertation) are represented by compulsory subjects Publications of specialized studies, Reviews in professional periodicals, Presentation at a foreign conference, Presentation at a conference in the Czech Republic / Slovakia, Grant project and Teaching of a specialized subject (range of about 25 hours of direct teaching). General and theoretical courses are among the compulsory parts of the study - the subjects Philosophy for Doctoral Studies and Theory and History of Comparative Literature and Genology.
The compulsory part of the study (subject Foreign Study Internship I) is a stay at a foreign university or other research institution (chosen with regard to the topic of the dissertation) in the total scope of one semester (it can be realized once or in smaller periods).
Within the compulsory elective courses, the student chooses - with regard to the focus of the dissertation and after consultation with the supervisor - two courses from the block Theoretical courses, passes an exam in the second world language (chooses from French, German, Russian and Spanish) and the remaining 30 credits gets from the Elective Courses block.
