  • Objectives

    The Bachelor’s degree study program in Spanish Language and Literature opens the way for the acquisition of basic knowledge and respective competences in fields of Linguistics, History, Literature and Culture of Hispanophone Countries, including Spain. Input language level corresponds to the Common European Framework Reference for Languages, i. e., B1, output language to level C1.

  • Learning Outcomes

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • write and speak in Spanish with a Pre-Proficiency C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
    • think independently and critically in areas that demand a wide-ranging knowledge of Spanish in its cultural and language context
    • have a broad knowledge of the social, political, cultural and historic background in Spain and other Hispanophone (Spanish-speaking) countries
    • have a solid knowledge about the structure of Spanish language as a specific Romance language, as well as its varieties
    • use the basic professional abilities in the fields of translation and teaching of spanish
  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

    Graduates with this degree can write and speak in Spanish with an almost Pre-Proficient level. They are equipped with a broad knowledge of the social, political, and cultural situations in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. In addition to access to professional careers the fields of translation, interpretation, editing, journalism, and tourism, they are equipped with the necessary skills adaptable to other professions: the ability to think independently and critically and to express themselves in both their mother tongue and Spanish.

  • Practical Training

    Practical training is not required.

  • Goals of Theses

    A standard scope of a Bachelor's thesis is about 80,000 characters including footnotes, list of literature, etc.; supplements do not count in the scope of characters. Bachelor's thesis has the character of graduation thesis where students should demonstrate the ability to work critically with specialized texts and apply their acquired knowledge in their own research adapted to their level of studies. Students can focus either on linguistic or literary oriented topics. The student selects the subject of her/his thesis, pending on consultations and approbation of her/his thesis tutor or director, who recommends a methodology and primary reading. The undergraduate must consult with her/his thesis tutor on a regular basis.

  • Access to Further Studies

    Graduates can continue to the Master’s degree study programs in Spanish language and literature, Spanish language translation, North American cultural studies (if the previous major or minor study was English), and Upper secondary school teacher training in Spanish.
