Cíle studijního programu

After the students complete all of the required courses from the first year of studies, their individual study plans are further designed to ensure they will focus on literary research and compose the theoretical segment of the doctoral thesis in the second year and also to ensure they are involved in pedagogical activities.

Furthermore, the individual plans are eventually allowing them to complete some of the elective courses and apply for the final state doctoral examination. In the third year of studies, the primary focus is the collection of data for the practical segment of the doctoral thesis and also the presentation of partial results at academic conferences. Simultaneously, the students are encouraged to become involved in pedagogical activities.

In the fourth year, the students are expected to focus on the publication of their results, for the reason that the acceptance of an article by academic journals, especially those with a measured impact factor, usually takes at least one year from its submission. They should also complete their doctoral thesis and, after their publications are accepted, apply for the admission to the defence of the doctoral thesis, and thus successfully finish their doctoral studies.

  • Informace o přijímacím běhu

The applicant should submit an e-application form and pay the application fee. Once this is done, the administrator of the Office for Research and Quality will download the application together with all enclosed documents and send it to the right study programme admission committee. It is necessary to complete the recognition of previous education, as mentioned on the webpage for applicants (https://www.med.muni.cz/en/research-and-development/phd-studies/for-applicants) in the part "Admission Information". This procedure can take some time (months) to be completed. The admission committee evaluates the materials which the applicant has attached to the application: curriculum vitae, an essay – a motivation letter, a diploma and transcript of courses taken, two letters of recommendation from previous teachers. We recommend to the applicant to prepare these documents very carefully, as it is on the basis of these documents that the applicant will be invited to the second round of interviews. The entrance examination in the form of an interview conducted before the admission committee; upon prior agreement, it can be held using videoconferencing technology. In the admission process, the applicant can obtain a maximum of 100 points. To be accepted, it is necessary to receive at least 85 points. An admission committee evaluates a presentation of an applicant during the exam. However, the final decision has to be made by the dean of faculty. If the result is "accepted", the administrator of the Office for Research and Quality prepares admission documents.

  • Standardy kvalifikačních prací

Doctoral Ph.D. in Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology must meet the requirements applied to scientific work internationally. The introduction of the thesis documents the state of research in a specific research issue. Since the HPLE is based on a population approach, quantitative research methods are preferred, the results are presented on the basis of statistical processing and the conclusions are formulated exactly. Discussion must be conducted in a curriculum of instruction and criticism using recent international literature. Formal requirements for work respect the general recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine.

The standards of dissertation theses at LF MU are regulated by the Dean's Directive No. 5/2021 "Guidelines on the formal requirements of dissertation theses prepared at the MU Faculty of Medicine"
