Cíle studijního programu

The aim of the doctoral study programme Healthcare Simulation is to educate independent scientific and academic staff in the emerging field of medical education. The newly created Healthcare Simulation programme combines many medical specializations in modern methods of medical education. Interdisciplinary cooperation is essential for simulation medicine not only in the most well-known, so-called high-fidelity simulations but also in the sharing of theoretical, practical, and scientific knowledge among academics, not only across the Czech Republic but also worldwide.

The collaboration of academics across many disciplines benefits from the development of knowledge and brings wide scientific potential in unexplored areas of simulation medicine. A key characteristic of the Healthcare Simulation medicine programme is the support of such interdisciplinary cooperation.

The programme Healthcare Simulation is intended for graduates of master's degree programmes of the Faculty of Medicine, but also for graduates of technical (eg biomedical technologies, bioinformatics, information technology) or pedagogical fields. The programme will thus lead to interdisciplinary cooperation of all partners in the fields of simulation medicine: medical disciplines, pedagogical disciplines, and technological development.

The programme is based on the cooperation of several Brno workplaces that participate in teaching innovation at the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University (Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, University Hospital Brno and Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation University Hospital at St. Anne's in Brno, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, University Hospital Brno and Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, University Hospital Brno and Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Anatomy).

The programme will be located at the newly established Institute of Simulation Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, which works closely with many foreign institutions (Human Simulation Center, Munich, Germany; Hellenic Society of Anaesthesiology - Simulation Center, Athens, Greece; St George's, University of London, London, Great Britain, Medical Simulation Center Medical University, Karol Marcinkowski in Poznan, Poznań, Poland, Alpha Medical Concepts, Linz, Austria ..) and cooperates with the European Society for Simulation (SESAM - Society for Simulation in Europe). Thanks to close foreign cooperation, doctoral students will be facilitated by internships abroad, which are a mandatory part of their curriculum.

The team of the Institute of Simulation Medicine covers the following research topics, in which doctoral students are also trained:

- Non-technical skills in medical simulations

- Low-fidelity simulation methods

- High-fidelity simulation methods

- Technological development of simulation environment

- Possibilities of involvement of non-medical medical staff in simulations

- Management of critical conditions in individual medical disciplines

- Debriefing in medical simulations

- Methodology of individual modalities of simulation medicine

- Innovation of teaching methods

The connecting elements between the individual teams are shared technologies, methodological support, professional seminars, annual Ph.D. students conference, and their mutual cooperation. Students are motivated by the high professional quality of research in a competitive but open environment.
