The volume presents the results of research by young Czech, Slovak and German linguists into spoken and written English discourse as reported and discussed at The Brno Workshop on Linguistics Studies hosted in 2011 by the Department of English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University, Brno. The contributions are corpus-based studies on a range of discoursal features and strategies, and cover a diversity of topics across discourses, namely academic, literary and dramatic discourse and computer-mediated communication. Tento sborník předkládá výsledky výzkumných projektů mladých lingvistů z České republiky, Slovenska a Německa, které byly představeny na vědeckém setkání s názvem The Brno Workshop on Linguistics Studies, pořádaném na podzim roku 2011 Katedrou anglického jazyka a literatury na Pedagogické Fakultě MU v Brně. Společným jmenovatelem těchto projektů byl výzkum mluveného a psaného anglického diskurzu. Následující příspěvky jsou korpusové studie analyzující různé typy diskurzů, od akademického, přes literární až po online komunikaci, a jsou zaměřené na jejich různé rysy nebo strategie v nich používané.
