Markrabě Jan Jindřich vydal 2. února 1350 listinu, jíž oznámil založení kláštera řádu augustiniánských poustevníků v brněnském předměstí zasvěceného Panně Marii a sv. Tomáši Apoštolovi. Zakládací listinu kláštera kartuziánů v Králově Poli vydal markrabě Jan Jindřich 13. srpna 1375. Říká v ní, že se souhlasem svých synů Jošta, Jana Soběslava a Prokopa i manželky Alžběty uvedl jako první do svého moravského markrabství kartuziánský řád, a to tak, že určil svůj pozemek neboli dvorec ve vsi Královo Pole k tomu, aby tam byl vybudován klášter řečeného řádu k poctě sv. Trojice. Oba kláštery spíše než s určitým posílením mocenské pozice markraběte v zemi souvisely s vnitřní zbožností a rodovou reprezentací, v prvém případě posílenou sepulkrální funkcí instituce, ve druhém kontemplativním a studijním charakterem společenství.

On 2 February 1350, Margrave John Henry issued a charter, in which he announced the foundation of a monastery of the Augustinian Hermits in the suburbs of Brno. The monastery was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Thomas the Apostle. The foundation charter of the Carthusian monastery in Královo Pole was issued by Margrave John Henry on 13 August 1375. It reads that the margrave was the first person who, with the consent of his sons Jobst, John Soběslav and Prokop as well as his wife Elisabeth, introduced the Carthusian Order to the Margravate of Moravia by means of providing the village of Královo Pole with his piece of land or yard in order to build a monastery of the aforementioned order in honour of the Holy Trinity. Rather than strengthening the margrave's power in the land, both monasteries were related to inner piety and family representation: enhanced in the first case by the sepulchral role of the institution and in the second by the contemplative and educational character of the community.
