This presentation analysed the issue of interpretation of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sales of Goods (“CISG”) with the focus on the methods of interpretation that could be employed within the CISG. First, the presentation dealt with the guidelines of interpretation contained in Article 7(1). Then the rules of interpretation of Vienna Convention of the Law of Treaties (“Vienna Convention”) were analysed. Further, the relation between Article 7(1) and the rules of Vienna Convention was explained. Finally, the actual methods of CISG interpretation were analysed.
