Jh. (Historia monachorum in Aegypto, Palladios' Historia Lausiaca, Ioannes Moschos' Pratum Spirituale, die Sammlung von Paulos von Monembasia und Neophytos Enkleistos' Panegyrike) zu untersuchen. Die strukturalistische Methode ((R. Barthes, C. Bremond, A. Greimas)wird benutzt, durch welche die elementare Handlungslinie von den inhaltlichen Anreicherungen isoliert und die letzteren nach ihrem Charakter klassifiziert werden können. Diese Trennung des Gerüstes von den übrigen Bestandteilen des Erzählgebäudes stellt einen unabdingbaren Ausgangspunkt für die weitere Analyse der Erzähltechnik dar, was gleichermaßen gut auf moderne als auch auf mittelalterliche Literaturwerke oder sogar auf orale Erzählungen anwendbar ist.
