Plus que cinquante ans apres la mort de Ferdinand Peroutka, il nous reste a redécouvrir son oeuvre journalistique imminent a l actualité de l Histoire du XXe siecle – l époque qu on a aujourd hui de plus en plus mal a interpréter dans un contexte approprié. Lire et essayer de comprendre Peroutka dans le contexte tcheque pourrait alors nous aider mieux comprendre ce que nous sommes devenus ici et maintenant. Dans notre contribution, nous voudrions nous poser la question si dans le cas de Peroutka écrire signifie-t-il témoigner ou se faire comprendre et comment ce choix devrait etre compris et interprété à l époque actuelle. Nous nous concentrerons a sa vision de la liberté - liberté de la parole journalistique et liberté de la société démocratique – les themes fondamentaux de la réflexion peroutkienne.

Znovu objevit žurnalistické dílo Ferdinanda Peroutky zůstává naším úkolem i padesát let po jeho smrti. Jedná se o dílo úzce spojené s historií 20. století – období, které nám v současnosti činí stále větší problémy zasadit do správného historického kontextu. Číst a chápat Peroutku v kontextu české kultury a politiky by nám tedy mohlo pomoci pochopit, kdo jsme nyní a teď. V našem příspěvku si klademe otázku, zda v Peroutkově případě psát znamená podávat svědectví nebo jde spíše o snahu být pochopen a zamýšlíme se nad tím jak v současnosti tento postoj interpretovat. Soustřeďujeme se především na Peroutkovu vizi svobody – svobody novinářského slova a svobody demokratické společnosti – dvou základních témat Peroutkových úvah.

Rediscovering the journalistic work of Ferdinand Peroutka is still an important task, even fifty years after his death. His work was closely connected to the history of the 20th century - a period which is proving more and more difficult to place into the correct historical context - and therefore reading and understanding Peroutka in the context of Czech culture and politics should help us understand who we are now in the present times. This paper presents the question of whether, in Peroutka's case, writing means presenting a testimony or if it is more a desire to be understood and how to interpret this attitude today. It concentrates on Peroutka's vision of freedom - the freedom of the press and a democratic society - two central themes of his deliberations.
