This collection of chapters has been focused on topics linked to the 14th International Conference on Technology Policy and Innovation1 held at Masaryk University in September 2014. As the creation, diffusion, and use of knowledge increasingly becomes a key strategic resource for regional as well as national economic development and social wellbeing, there is a need to enhance our understanding of the barriers and incentives for science and technology (S&T) knowledge generation, transfer, application, and diffusion in developed, developing, and emerging regions worldwide.

Kniha navazuje na mezinárodní konferenci ICTPI 2014, kterou Masarykova univerzita hostila v září 2014. Hlavním tématem konference se stalo Budování udržitelných výzkumných a vývojových center v rostoucích technologicky zaměřených regionech. Cílem akce pak mj. bylo přispět ke vzniku prostředí, které podporuje úspěšný transfer technologií – přenos výsledků výzkumu a vynálezů z vysokých škol do praxe.
